Permutations Software generating poems by Brion Gysin

New York based artist Joseph Moore wrote the software “Permutations” for the currently running exhibition Brion Gysin: Dream Machine on display at The New Museum for Contemporary Art in New York. The Exhibition is a retrospective of the work of the painter, performer, poet, and writer Brion Gysin (born 1916, Taplow, UK–died 1986, Paris). Working simultaneously in a variety of mediums, Gysin was an irrepressible inventor, serial collaborator, and subversive spirit whose considerable innovations continue to influence musicians and writers, as well as visual and new media artists today.
The “Permutations” software by Joseph Moore is a “version” of the program developed by Ian Sommerville and Gysin in 1960 to permute poems. Moore has attempted to create a realization of the work that is sensitive to the original and its process. At the same time, it is a new version, a collaboration done in the spirit of an artist whose work provides a critique of conventional notions of authorship. Moore believes that it is also in the spirit of the work to share copies of it and made his “Permutations” Software avilable to download from Github. The concept and artistic process of this project is fascinating.

Alex Roman | The Third & The Seventh

The Third & The Seventh is a fascinating short film by Alex Roman. In this movie he tries to illustrate architecture art across a photographic point of view. The main subjects in this film are already-built spaces. Sometimes they are portrayed in an abstract way and sometimes in surreal manner. We suggest that you switch the video to full screen view to fully enjoy this short film Gem.

Gabriel Michel | Milky way

We came across French photographer Gabriel Michel’s portfolio and very much liked his Milky Way series. The dialogue between the fluid (Milk) and the fragmented parts of the submerged human body does remind one of the play between the fabric of a garment and the wearer of this garment. A fascinating photo series.

Fashion Blogs | A book by Kirstin Hanssen

Fashion blogs first appeared in the blogosphere prior to 2002 and they are, also for the designers of Warmenhoven & Venderbos, a fascinating and continues growing phenomenon in the fashion media and fashion critics world. Just like many blogs and online communities in other fields they do democratise and challenge the monopoly of the online as well as printed professional fashion media but also challenge the professional opinion makers and critics who create this media. For consumers fashion blogs are a new source for fashion news and information or a source to simply get inspired by personal opinions, taste, styling choices and statements made by all these individual fashion bloggers from around the world. It is likely they will have a considerable long-term influence on the fashion industry.
The phenomenon of fashion blogging raises many questions, Journalist Kirstin Hanssen and graphic designer Felicia Nitzsche investigated these questions, together with co-writer Elina Tozzi and decided to capture fashion blogs as an intriguing piece of zeitgeist in a book. The main content of the book is divided into five categories: fashion journalism, street style photography, party photography, personal style blogs, and men’s style. with photography by Krista van der Niet.

Some examples of blogs that are featured in the book are: Style Bubble, Garance Doré, A Shaded View On Fashion, Glamcanyon, Stil in Berlin, July Stars, Abdul Lagerfield, Street Etiquette, Les Mads, The Streethearts, Pretend It Never Happened, Moderniteter, Kate Loves Me, Sea of Shoes, Elinkan.
A handful of other notable and favorite fashion blogs of the Warmenhoven & Venderbos designers are: Stylescrapbook, The Coveted, White lightning, Liberty london girl, I love fashionnews, The Sartorialist, My Turn, After Drk, Facehunter, Mimic me, The Digitalistas, Song of style, Late Afternoon, This chicks got style, Yvan Rodic, Mode junkie, Dutch streetstyle, Modeblog.nl, Fashion blog.nl, Fashiolista, Freakdelafashion.
