Don’t watch this film

The centre figure of Lopez Carlos productions is filmmaker and animator Eugenio Lopez Carlos. His work ranges from film making, animations to VJ-shows and to 3d modelling and texture design. Aside of his commissioned work he also creates autonomous work like his interactive docudrama about conspiracies called: Don’t watch this film. In this film Lopez Carlos blurs the boundaries of fiction and reality. The viewer gets into a roller coaster ride where fact and fiction and urban legends get mixed into a new reality, this reality is often throughout the movie combined with a good dose of humour. What is the truth and what is pure nonsense? what is reality and what is fiction?

The above video features the none interactive version and has a run time of 32:27 minutes. Visit the Lopez Carlos productions website for more information. The first version of this film was interactive you can find more about the interactive film on the Don’t watch this film website.

BMW Gina: Body, movement and skin

BMW recently revealed the GINA light visionary model concept car, an innovative new exploration in car design.

The concepts of this car has a close relation to fashion and garment design. Instead of the traditional steel and plastic body shell, the Gina concept uses a textile fabric which is stretched like a second skin garment over the frame of the car.

By using this flexible textile fabric the look and feel of the car can be changed according to the mood and/or taste of the driver. The interaction of the body, movement and the flexible skin are more reminiscent to the interaction of garments, like for example skirts and dresses, around the human body then to  regular cars.

The project began by questioning the purpose of a car’s body and exploring new possibilities. Chris Bangle, director of design for BMW, discuses the project in the video above. The car is currently on show at the BMW museum in Munich, Germany.

The skin of(f)

From the WARMENHOVEN & VENDERBOS archives.

The skin of(f) is a small installation in which a step by step example of the conceptual approach of  W&V is shown.

By means of adhesive tape a 3-dimensional mould of the upper body of Venderbos was created.  The mould was reduced to a 2-dimensional pattern through coupe and cut. This part provided the basic pattern for a garment, in this case a skirt.

The Skin of(f) installation was bought by the Historical museum located in The Schielandhuis, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
