Fashion blogs first appeared in the blogosphere prior to 2002 and they are, also for the designers of Warmenhoven & Venderbos, a fascinating and continues growing phenomenon in the fashion media and fashion critics world. Just like many blogs and online communities in other fields they do democratise and challenge the monopoly of the online as well as printed professional fashion media but also challenge the professional opinion makers and critics who create this media. For consumers fashion blogs are a new source for fashion news and information or a source to simply get inspired by personal opinions, taste, styling choices and statements made by all these individual fashion bloggers from around the world. It is likely they will have a considerable long-term influence on the fashion industry.

The phenomenon of fashion blogging raises many questions, Journalist Kirstin Hanssen and graphic designer Felicia Nitzsche investigated these questions, together with co-writer Elina Tozzi and decided to capture fashion blogs as an intriguing piece of zeitgeist in a book.The main content of the book is divided into five categories: fashion journalism, street style photography, party photography, personal style blogs, and men’s style. with photography by Krista van der Niet.

Some examples of blogs that are featured in the book are: Style Bubble, Garance Doré, A Shaded View On Fashion, Glamcanyon, Stil in Berlin, July Stars, Abdul Lagerfield, Street Etiquette, Les Mads, The Streethearts, Pretend It Never Happened, Moderniteter, Kate Loves Me, Sea of Shoes, Elinkan.

Mizu Hanabi is the title of a stunning video by Japanese artist Tetsuka Niiyama. for this work he was inspired by and idea of “What would it be like if a water drop explodes like fireworks?”. The result: Water drops in a microgravity space bursts sequentially,imitating the Japanese seasonal tradition, fireworks.

Aras Karimi, a Los Angeles based artist, looks at photography as a relationship between light and film: light as a playful actor and film as a serious recorder. He sees it as his job as a photographer to write the best scenario for this one-time instant play. Light itself, is the main subject of his works. He is interested in light as the story teller. In fact the scenes in his works are the medium to picture light, its mood on different surfaces and its personality in different spaces.

Light, sound and Grace Jones

The below video shows highlights from the ‘Stillness at the Speed of Light’ exhibition which was on show in May 2010 at The Vinyl Factory in Soho, London. The Exhibition showcased the extraordinary alchemy between light artist Chris Levine and pop/fashion icon Grace Jones. Chris Levine is the latest in a line of artists who worked with Grace Jones. He managed to make a step forward in the line of all the extraordinary iconic images of her which where created by other artists, like for example Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, by creating a stunning 3D portrait series using the lenticular printing technology.
