Warmenhoven & Venderbos will celebrate Christmas and New Year again by supporting a cause that is dear to them.
The Warmenhoven & Venderbos budget, which has been reserved for Christmas gifts has this year been donated to the Dutch Red Cross a movement which prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers. They do this national as well as international. The annual 3FM Serious Request campaign supports this year also again the Dutch Red cross with a fundraiser.

We wish you a merry Christmas and an inspiring New Year.

What is depth?
Depth is the creation of something more than what is required or minimal.

Depth is meaning.

Where does it fit in?
Depth is often the frustration of need, the need to know, the need to understand, even the need to accomplish a task.
Depth is an unknown force in our environment, or a smug feeling of knowing and comfort.
Depth is the lack of information, the missing puzzle-piece, removed to move the user.
Depth is an appeal to the senses, a riot of exploration, and sometimes a hint of sublime realisation.
Depth is connection and shared experience, knowledge which binds those who experience it.

Why are we attracted to depth?
Depth confounds our needs, denies understanding, induces anxiety.

The fun party last saturday night (8 Sept.) at the Garden Lounge of the Liebieghaus and inside the Schirn which carried the titel Koons at night: Pop’n’Dance was part of the Jeff Koons exhibition at these locations. Both the Schirn Kunsthalle and the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung show the work of Jeff Koons, who has played a pioneering role in the contemporary art world since the 1980s. The venues have deliberately separate the sculptural and painterly aspects of Koons his oeuvre and present each of them in a context of its own. The exhibition entitled “Jeff Koons. The Painter” at the Schirn focuses on the artist’s structural development as a painter. With motifs drawn from a diverse range of high and pop-cultural sources, his monumental painted works combine hyper-realistic and gestural elements to form complexes as compact in imagery as they are in content. In the show “Jeff Koons. The Sculptor” at the Liebieghaus, older as well as new sculptures by Jeff Koons enter into dialogues with the historical building and a sculpture collection spanning five millennia.

In his paintings and sculptures, Jeff Koons employs elements from the consumer world and “high culture” alike, quotes artistic epochs as readily as he does objects from everyday life and advertising, and thus draws our attention again and again to such categories as beauty and desirability. Within this context, he has become an unequalled master of the interplay between the sublime and the banal. Although his works quote familiar motifs from the consumer context, it is not for the sake of kitsch and irony. In an interview he commented: “I work with things that are sometimes referred to as kitsch, even if kitsch per se has never interested me. I always try to convey self-confidence, a certain inner sense of security, to the viewer. My chief concern in my work is the viewer.” Koons is interested “not in the complexity, but in the simplicity of being” and its acceptance. The exhibitions at the Schirn Kunsthalle and the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung in Frankfurt am Main, will run untill September 23, 2012.

Song Dong emerged from the Beijing-based avant-garde performance art community and is an important artist in the development of Chinese conceptual art since the early 1990s.His oevre contains performance, photography, projection, video and installation pieces. With his work Song Dong explores notions of perception and the ephemeral nature of existence.

Writing diary with water is an ongoing conceptual performance project by Song Dong. 
He uses a calligraphy brush to write daily diary entries in water on a selected block of stone.The writing in this invisible diary rapidly evaporates, though still represents an act of purification for the artist. This conceptual performance piece is documented by 4 photo’s. Song Dong about this piece: “although it is just a stone, it actually has become thicker day by day, with my own thoughts added on it”.
The water diary has now become an important part of his life and art and from it other performance pieces evolved like for example Dong’s “Stamping the water” and “Writing time in water.
