Chris Cunningham was born in Reading, Berkshire in 1970 and grew up in Lakenheath, Suffolk.
He started his career as a special effects artist and moved to music video film directing and video art.
His first video art project was Flex (2000). Flex is a study of anatomy and sexuality. The images are at the same time abstract, serene and full of beauty, as well as violent and explicit. A male and a female body and their shadows are engaged in a primitive choreography. Remarkable is also the relationship between the music and the images. Richard D. James composed the music based on the images of the Flex art video.
